Update June 25, 2011
On Friday, June 24, 2011, at approximately 7:00 pm, there was a controlled gas release at a conventional well site operated by Talisman Energy USA. The Dzybon well is located at 12127 East Corning Road, close to Exit 48 on Interstate 86, approximately five miles East of Corning NY. Appearing in the form of steam, there was gas and water released from a vent hatch. The vent hatch, which acts as a safety device to prevent pressure build-up within the tank, was operating properly and allowed the gas to be released in a controlled manner.
Upon notification, police and fire departments responded to the scene, securing the site until Talisman representatives arrived. Talisman immediately initiated their emergency response plan as a precautionary measure, isolated the release and shut down the well.
Initial assessment of the scene indicated there were no environmental concerns as a result of this incident and Talisman reported the release to New York's Department of Environmental Conservation (DECNY).
The safety of our employees, community residents, and stakeholders remains our first priority. The well site will remain shut down until a thorough investigation is complete.
