December 2, 2011

On Thursday, December 1, 2011, Talisman Energy USA was notified of a spill, which occurred approximately 1.5 miles from a Talisman well site in Warren Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.   At the time of the report, Talisman had no information to confirm whether the spill was associated with Talisman operations.  As a precautionary measure, and as part of Talisman’s Good Neighbor Program, the Company responded immediately by activating an emergency response team to assess the situation and to notify all appropriate local and state authorities.

Talisman worked with the Bradford County Emergency Management Office, Pennsylvania DEP, and Pennsylvania State Police to identify the cause of the spill.  Upon review, it was confirmed that the spill materials, identified as a mixture of very fine-grained rock cuttings, used drilling mud and water, originated from a Talisman well site.  Drilling mud is a mineral-oil based fluid used during the drilling process; and is then vacuum-extracted upon completion of the drilling.

According to State Police, Josh Foster, driver of the truck that was used to extract the drilling materials, admitted to dumping the fluids.  The incident is now under criminal investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police who have charged Foster with “scattering rubbish” and set bail at $100,000.  Foster is not an employee of Talisman Energy USA.

Talisman has completed initial clean-up activities and reports no contamination of waterways, nor any impact to land, or wildlife.
